Precision lapping and polishing services of all materials, whether hard or soft, have been the specialties of Valley Design for 45 years. Other precision machining services include diamond dicing and cutting, Blanchard grinding, 4 Axis CNC machining, and optical polishing.
Custom flat lapping and precision polishing of all types of materials from a single piece to millions of pieces, on both customer supplied and on our own supplied materials are the specialty of Valley Design. Based on our extensive experience with a wide variety of materials from soft PEEK to various Optical Glasses and Fused Silica, to hard Ceramics and Sapphire, we can provide lapping and polishing services on almost anything. We have developed multitudes of special processes to solve your unique problems as part of the extraordinary service that we provide our customers. ISO 9001:2015 certified, all our processes have been carefully documented and are repeatable, so that once you have received a quality product from Valley Design that meets your specifications, you can depend on a consistent production throughput.
We pride ourselves on being the ultimate source for all your production and precision lapping and polishing requirements. With over 100 types of single and double sided lapping and polishing machines, on any given day we can polish almost any type of material. Our equipment ranges from 12" diameter R&D machines for 1 off projects to large 64" diameter machines which can handle production quantities as well as large parts such as 3 foot diameter seals used in oil well applications. With our diverse range of lap sizes 12", 18", 24", 28", 32", 36", 48" and 64" diameters we can handle any size, any material type and any quantity from small R&D projects to large production quantities in the thousands. In 2017, Valley shipped nearly 2 million individual components in a diverse variety of materials such as Aluminum Nitride, 96% and 99.6% Alumina, Fused Silica, Fused Quartz, Glass, Sapphire, Silicon, Aluminum, Molybdenum, Stainless Steel, Silicon Carbide and many others.
PRECISION LAPPING SERVICES: Our single-sided lapping and double-sided lapping can meet your most demanding requirements for thickness and flatness. Thickness tolerances of ± .5um can be held. Flatnesses of 1/10 wave can be achieved depending on material type and size.
PRECISION POLISHING SERVICES: Our single-sided polishing and double-sided polishing will give you the best surface finishes available. Valley has achieved 0/0 scratch dig < 4 Angstroms on Fused Silica, Fused Quartz and some glasses. We have also recently improved our polishing process to produce <20 Angstroms surface roughness on Aluminum and Stainless Steel. Special capabilities include ultra-thin to 10um, ultra flat 1/10 wave, super polishing 1 Angstrom, tight tolerances +/- .5um, TTV < .5um.

We lap and polish customer supplied materials as well as our own supplied materials, and parts may be custom sized, or standard sized based on your requirements. Valley has an extensive inventory of both raw material and thousands of finished wafers and substrates in stock.
