Optical Transmission of Sapphire Windows and Disks

Sapphire (single-crystal aluminum oxide Al203) has desirable optical properties in that it can transmit wavelengths from 150 to 6000nm and because the strength of Sapphire when thinned is useful at wavelengths close to their transmission limits.
